So we are remodeling an old house and I found your underwear.

So my title got your attention, didn’t it?

It’s true…we are remodeling an old house.  In fact, it’s about 110 years old, and it still has the original lath and plaster walls and ceilings installed.  Well, not any more…that was some of the first work that we got started on; removing all of that material and getting it to the dump was a chore.  The living room alone was 1,600 lbs of old plaster that we removed – it was a big day!

So we are on to the ceilings which we almost left alone.  But since the decision was made to pull them down, we got to work.  As my story progresses, I did find some underwear up in the ceiling.  But let me set the stage for this story a bit.

It was late at night and I ended up doing some of this demo alone.  The lights were mostly off, this is a 110 year old house, and as I’m removing the 8′ ceilings to reveal these amazing 9′ ceilings that got covered up at some point, the attic was becoming visible at times and once in a while I peeked up to see what I could see.  However it was late, dark and I was getting a little spooked.  Who knows what is up in an old attic, right?

So I’m kind of on my guard…but I’m a grown man and I know that there can’t be anything to worry about. Gulp.

That’s when my crowbar pulled down a leg…a leg to these old underwear that had been stashed up in the attic a long time ago.

I know it doesn’t look like much…but I stopped and took a closer look.  Here’s the tag inside of these beauties:

It says “Quality Russco Underwear”.  So I looked them up, and it appears that this clothing manufacturer went out of business in 1920.  WOW!  That means likely these have been up in this attic for approximately 100 years.  As I kept digging further, there were a lot of clothes…kids clothes, dresses, and what appeared to be old curtains or tablecloths.  I think someone had finished with these items and stuffed them up in the attic for insulation, until I pulled them down this week!  Crazy.

So I’m still looking for the box of gold that is hiding up there…but I’m sure I’ll just get another “box of old” 😉

Strange finds, and I’ll let you know if any other treasures pop up.

Take care, Ryan

It’s the busy season for construction.

Hello again my friends…there’s another reason that we’ve been so out of touch lately; it’s because we are admidst the busy season here at KC Key Solutions and we’ve been working 7 days a week to catch up! I decided early this morning that I needed to stop and get in the office to do a few “house cleaning” projects and to write a few blogs.  I like the “blogging” part of the business I need to do more of it.

Have you seen our trucks running around town?  Out fleet is growing and we are also NOW HIRING.  So if you’ve got a trade that you’re amazing at in the construction industry, give us a call at 913-686-6278 to set up an interview.  We need only amazing people to apply and there is a mandatory drug screening for all new hires.  We don’t do illegal drugs here, the construction site is no place for them, thank you for your understanding!

So we’ll be back out on the road here shortly and if you see us, be sure to give us a wave.  You’ll get a wave and a smile in return.  Until then, I’ll be headed back the the basement in Overland Park we’ve been working on in a few minutes.  These basements that we are working on are looking amazing!

Have a good morning, Ryan
