Home Remodel? Check out this rental that we’ve almost finished.

Hello there and good afternoon!

I bought this small house several months ago and every weekend I spend a few hours on it’s renovation.  Here’s a quick snapshot looking through the new huge front window:

img_5184

You’d never be able to tell from this picture, but we raised the ceilings to 9′ from 8′ and maximized our look with new door openings and accenting colors.

The tile floor just needs to be grouted and then the finishing touches put on.  This little two bedroom place went from 100 year-old dump to updated and fashionable.  We started by ripping out all of the old plaster and lath, replacing all of the wiring to bring it up to code, installing new plumbing, heat and air-conditioning, then finishing with a new kitchen and granite countertops.

Why not add a little flare with a reclaimed wood wall?  Sure!  There it is on the left and you can see the living room really coming together.

So if you’ve been wondering why my blogging has slowed so much – take a look above.  The pictures don’t do it justice.  It’s not every day that you can see an entire remodel happen but at KC Key Solutions it’s what we do day in an day out.  The exciting part about it is that we see something new every day.  Looking to spice up that 100 year-old beauty that you’ve got?  Give us a call and we’ll be happy to take care of it for you!

Have a good night, Ryan

Welcome Casey to KC Key Solutions!

Hello there again, it’s a great Friday and I’m in the writing mood.

Casey started with us a couple of weeks ago and he’s doing great.  He’s managing some of our larger revolving maintenance accounts and he’s got the flair for customer service.  In fact, he’s even ridden along with me on a few jobs to see how a veteran handles his business 😉

So if you get a call from KC Key Solutions, you might hear from this young man.  It’s kind of fun to hear him say “Hi, this is Casey from KC Key”.  Say it out loud and you’ll notice a lot of “KC” going on there!

He’s made it through a couple of weeks…and he hasn’t quit yet.  Now let’s see how he does during our busy season, right?

Have a safe afternoon.  Ryan

Cabinets, of course!

Hello there!  Remember me?  It’s Ryan and KC Key and I admit it’s been a while.

Business has been…busy.  I know that I’ve been in this position before but truthfully we’ve been working 14 hour days and a few things just got pushed off.  Like blogging.   It’s always the fun stuff that goes first!

So we finished up a cabinet project for a customer today and it came out great.  We have a lot of new pictures to show you from the last couple of months but let’s start here and work our way back.

Monday we took the cabinets to our warehouse for painting.  Here’s Casey and Adam doing the heavy lifting from our trailer:

Then we got them sprayed with several coats of semi-gloss paint.  The finish came out fantastic!  This was a remodel and cabinet “match” to an existing kitchen layout.  We worked them into place, yes that’s me hiding behind the door:

And then the big reveal…the final product after we got both cabinets in with the crown molding and scribe.  they look like they have always been there!

If you’e got an eye for detail, you’ll notice that we ducted the wall heater register and rerouted it to the bottom of the pantry cabinet on the left.  It was a slick install and the customer didn’t lose her heat in the kitchen.  That’s always a plus 😉

So I’m going to try to get us back on track with a few new blogs each week and I’ve got a ton of tips and DIY stuff that will make you happy.  Need someone to help you with your next kitchen cabinet project?  Call us at KC Key Solutions.  913-686-6278 and we can take care of business for you.  In fact, we’ve got a huge cabinet project coming up.  We are building custom desks for a big client of ours and I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures!

Thanks, have a good weekend.  Ryan

Now that’s a tile floor. Come on man!

Hello there!

This floor was installed for one of my best friends, and it came out AWESOME.  Kyle and his wife picked out the greatest colors and after we finished this basement remodel it was just quite simply stunning.  We are almost done…just a few more details to add to the wet bar and new bathroom…but look at this floor!

IMG_4598.jpg

It looks good even before the grout!  Just for reference, here the same basement before we got started:

There’s a lot more to the amazing new space which has tons of new light, a lot of storage rooms, a wet bar with island social table, new bathroom and closets.  It’s a great example of KC Key Solutions working with great customers like these – the end result was above expectations.

Double doors. How about you just close that hole up in the side of the house Ryan?

Hello there and good afternoon!

Yes, we are at it again here at KC Key Solutions.  Need an appointment?  Set up a no-obligation appointment for a free estimate now!

We’ve been doing a lot of different projects for customers all over Kansas City, and we are just getting warmed up for the holiday season.  Typically winter is a slower period of construction companies like KC Key Solutions, but it appears that we are going to be busier than expected.  We’ve got 6 offices to build in a large warehouse, another house to paint, a basement to remodel, a door to install, some waterproofing to be done on a basement wall – plus some other big projects that are starting to fill our schedule.  It’s fantastic…thank you to all of our customers for the business.

Here’s a recent project on flip house that we finished; this house had somewhat of a
“bay” window, but we simply boxed it in, extended the cantilever floor and installed french doors.  BAM!

Here I am contemplating the situation, it’s a good thing it wasn’t raining:

Here’s the finished product from the outside:

Now it’s just time to add some steps, finish the trim, paint the house, and get it on the market.  Flip houses don’t do much for us until they are SOLD.  That’s how I feel about it anyway 😉

Have a great day, and remember we can make a mess at your house too if you’d like!  (We always sweep up!)

Take care, Ryan

So we are remodeling an old house and I found your underwear.

So my title got your attention, didn’t it?

It’s true…we are remodeling an old house.  In fact, it’s about 110 years old, and it still has the original lath and plaster walls and ceilings installed.  Well, not any more…that was some of the first work that we got started on; removing all of that material and getting it to the dump was a chore.  The living room alone was 1,600 lbs of old plaster that we removed – it was a big day!

So we are on to the ceilings which we almost left alone.  But since the decision was made to pull them down, we got to work.  As my story progresses, I did find some underwear up in the ceiling.  But let me set the stage for this story a bit.

It was late at night and I ended up doing some of this demo alone.  The lights were mostly off, this is a 110 year old house, and as I’m removing the 8′ ceilings to reveal these amazing 9′ ceilings that got covered up at some point, the attic was becoming visible at times and once in a while I peeked up to see what I could see.  However it was late, dark and I was getting a little spooked.  Who knows what is up in an old attic, right?

So I’m kind of on my guard…but I’m a grown man and I know that there can’t be anything to worry about. Gulp.

That’s when my crowbar pulled down a leg…a leg to these old underwear that had been stashed up in the attic a long time ago.

IMG_4693.jpg

I know it doesn’t look like much…but I stopped and took a closer look.  Here’s the tag inside of these beauties:

img_4692

It says “Quality Russco Underwear”.  So I looked them up, and it appears that this clothing manufacturer went out of business in 1920.  WOW!  That means likely these have been up in this attic for approximately 100 years.  As I kept digging further, there were a lot of clothes…kids clothes, dresses, and what appeared to be old curtains or tablecloths.  I think someone had finished with these items and stuffed them up in the attic for insulation, until I pulled them down this week!  Crazy.

So I’m still looking for the box of gold that is hiding up there…but I’m sure I’ll just get another “box of old” 😉

Strange finds, and I’ll let you know if any other treasures pop up.

Take care, Ryan

Signs of Foundation Failure:

Inside of the House

– Cracks in drywall

– Doors and windows that stick

– Cracks in floors and tile

– Misaligned doors and windows

Outside of the House

– Gaps around doors and windows

– Cracks in foundation

– Stair step cracks in brick walls

– Fascia board pulling away

– Chimneys tilting or pulling away

Garage

– Separation from door

– Walls rotating out

– Stair step cracks in brick walls

Basement of House

– Walls leaning in or out

– Cracks in the poured or block walls

– Water leakage at base of walls

There are many causes for these issues, but if you live in Kansas City you probably know by now that we’ve got some of the most expansive and unstable soil anywhere…and this is typically the root of the problem.

Soon we will be offering these services on our website…but I was too excited to wait.  I’ll be back soon!
